Project Summary
As an athlete and lover of sports I have always wanted to make sure that my work relies on my passion, being involved with sport. Given the relationships I have made from my brief time playing football professionally I have been granted the opportunity to work closely with a small sports marketing firm. The firm is called Lundy Marketing Group, and with them I will be tasked with making a scouting report for a client, guest-speaking to a couple of sports management classes at Southern Methodist University (SMU), a marketing plan, 2023 NIL player marketing meetings, 2023-2024 college/NFL prospect recruiting, and helping run a career fair as well as Black Sports Professionals of North Texas Summit.
My “project” specifically has been positioned to work on and implement real-time projects that the company has chosen to work on this fall. The individual projects allowed me to implement program core competencies such as research, leadership, management, and marketing, among others. Throughout the process I have had various tentative dates on assignments to strict deadlines. There was no specific timeline as far as one I came up with for my work, because I was often on borrowed time. The point was for my experience to be realistic.
The highlighted work that will be shown in the portfolio is the Atlanta Falcons Overview that I put together and outlined for a client, such as a scouting report in September. That was my first assignment, this was pure research to find out the details of personnel within the organization and what the client was looking at as far as the position room he was trying out for. Secondly, there will be the company PowerPoint that was used when speaking to the classes at SMU. One class we presented to in September (Sports communications), and the other in early November (PR in sport). There are pictures from my speaking to class should also be able to be viewed throughout the site. The elements of presenting the company and showing it to the students fall in line with marketing, and standing up there speaking to them and letting them hear my story as well as personal experience shows leadership.
Giving them encouragement to be involved with what they are passionate about and not to let it limit their experience as well as speak and learn from each other and to network as well. For the player marketing plan, that of course took research both on the player and implementing a way to show how their on-field performance can make them more marketable off-the-field.
The making of the presentation as well as the presentation each took place in November. There will also be an NIL focused PowerPoint included I had to construct in late September, which was revisited both in late September and in October. After that, my prospect outreach project was kickstarted, that took researching both high school and college prospects in the state of Alabama and Texas separately as potential prospects to reach out to for the company. The Alabama prospects were turned into an agent that works closely with the company that is there. Another highlighted aspect were some notes from a separate NIL presentation to college players just for background information to the schools and personnel/staff that the players can get to know and reach to for help starting/growing their NIL plan. Lastly, mostly listed from pictures, I helped manage the event North Texas Career fair for the group Black Sports Professionals (BSP) of North Texas, that our company is heavily involved with. Larry Lundy company president is also on the board as president for the BSP as well. This took place in mid-November, the same day of the Texas Rangers parade celebrating the World Series Champions.
I helped manage the table for BSP, giving others information about the group, and got the opportunity to go around and talk to other companies there and network. Such as the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Legends, Texas Wings, among others. My work was capped off this week sitting in on a meeting with the new NFL Pro Bowl Client, it seems like that is just the beginning of his partnership with Lundy Marketing Group!
